man, i remember when ubuntuforums were a hot bed of useful information. you'd ask a question, you'd get an answer, and it'd be a good one, by god. and if it wasn't, you'd tell 'em so and you'd get a better one.

now you wait a few hours, you don't get anything useful, and you don't even get your god damn money back. they're worse than pizza delivery boys.

Print Story why do YOU hate America?
Diary

left wing bloggers --

in the spirit of national unity engendered by the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, perhaps the single most important document in human history, in which the God fearing natives of America declared their autonomy from the decadent, 18th century incarnation of sodom and gehmorrah then known as the "british empire," i want to try to understand why it is that so many of you hate us, our allies (particularly israel), and our way of life. that doesn't mean i'll like it, but in order to deal with ignorance, one first has to identify its source.

inside, what i'll be doing this fourth of july and a picture of my favorite firework display in recent memory.

Print Story i don't care what any of you say...

you can trot out your latest talking points, your latest bon mots carefully considered and tested by all the bought and paid for think tanks and rustic, country fried focus groups. you can pull out your conventional wisdom about how and when this and that ought to be done and what and where such and such a thing must not be. i know how you naysayers are and i say "fie!" i bite my fist, sirs, and i bite it at thee -- i make no effort to hide the fact.

i've heard too much of your cynicism, your half-conscious ironies. i've been here too long to think anything of your little bits of cleverness, so simperingly offered as evidence of your sophistication, that famed "british wit." oh yes, i've seen it all, comrades, and i am not amused.

so i don't care what any of you say, how you might try to knock me down for stepping out of line, refusing to toe that proverbial party line, drawn so neatly in the sand by so many hands, over-wrung and over-wrought. i may find myself in the minority and, should that change, i might myself change so as to maintain my former condition, because that's what builds character: struggle. but character is something you'd know nothing about.

you read dkos? wonder why there're so many 9/11 conspiracy diaries, "fuck you dkos" (FUDK) diaries, and both rabid troll hunters and anti-troll hunters screaming at each other around the clock?

you know who you are, you smarmy little bastard. you've hidden and sniped and even on occasion come right out in the open, but no matter how you've done it, you've been nothing but a conniving, cowardly little ankle biter whose antics debase himself more than they do anything else -- anything else, perhaps, except the decorum and dignity of this website.

i've had enough! i'm calling you out! i thank those very few who've had the decency and good breeding to speak in my defense against this vagrant, this online horse thief, this so and so... but your assistance won't be needed tonight! oh no, tonight -- or today for our british friends -- is a night of reckoning. so come forth from your little crevices and gather your slimy appendages from out the cracks you habitate, you rat bastard you, come out and face me! or are you a coward?

Print Story nietzsche, part deux.

there's been some controversy over a certain german philosopher. in localroger's recent diary, the lines of the debate were drawn: some think he's good, while others think he's wack.

unfortunately, instead of arguing about nietzsche, we ended up arguing about someone different altogether. well, here's the chance to, you know, actually talk about nietzsche. i'll go quickly through the issues, quoting from rog's previous commentary.

i'm sure you all remember him. he was the guy who made the fiction section part of our collective and collaborative editorial misery some years ago at kuro5hin. obviously though, i have no interest in his fiction or his silly forays into trolling.

predictably, it's been his commentary on trolling that's caught my attention. mr. williams frequently equates online trolling with bullying, sociopathy, and violent crime in the real world. at first the comparison seems outlandish, but on reflection, something kind of rings true about it.

so i thought i would turn his equation around. rather than using the analogy to attack trolling, i figure, since i enjoy trolling online so much, i would probably get even more of a charge out of the real life activities localroger talks about, so i decided to investigate. my findings within:

hi. how are you? i know it seems like every time we talk i'm asking you for something and i wish i could say this were the exception.

i'm not asking a lot and i promise i'd do the same for you if you asked. it's not a lot and i don't want you to bend over backwards to accomodate me. it's just a small personal favor, a favor i'd happily return.
