i feel that the mahavishnu orchestra is charmingly seventies, unlike the obnoxiously seventies brand of fusion al dimeola engaged in during that era. on the other hand, i feel that the guitar is not featured prominently enough nor is it as much fun as perhaps it could be in view of mclaughlin's later collaboration with dimeola and paco de lucia -- this is somewhat offset by the hints of violin. i'm a sucker for the fiddle.

in summary, based on my brief listening, i give the mahavishnu orchestra five dancing jesters and two samuel l jacksons:
